The Pedicab (“becak”) Tour (Pedicab as a green transportation)
Pedicab ? Do we still have them in Jakarta?
Maybe it was the first question to be asked most of the people who live in Jakarta about the pedicab (here, in Indonesia, we call it “becak”). Because in Jakarta, it’s almost certainly had no trace of “becak” there. But this means of transportation that use human power is still widely found on outside of Jakarta, as in our city, Depok. In Depok, “becak” are still used as a means of public transportation.
Now, in learning about Green Transportation, teachers of Little Darbi include “becak” as a means of transportation which is very friendly environment, and invite some “becak’s driver” and their “becak” to attend to school. The students, guidance by the teachers, will ride a “becak” around the schoolyard. Even they live in Depok and find the “becak” almost everyday, some of the students had never ride it before! It was very enjoyable event! The students really enjoy this journey.

Why “becak” called as an environmentally friendly transportation? because it did not produce air pollution! Yes .. of course .. because we just pedaling it to make it move! And the “becak” also do not require fuel such as diesel or gasoline. So they are environmentally friendly.
But unfortunately, these “becak” began overshadowed by the motorcycle. Perhaps because of the motorcycle can move faster and can explore the areas which can not reach by the “becak” which depend on manpower. But ... do not give up! By using this environmentally friendly transportation, beside helping the “becak’s drivers’ economy, we also help to keep our earth fresh, healthy, and green. .. Let's start from now and from ourselves. Let's Go Green!
